I caught a 35mm print showing at the New Beverly Cinema (the one bought out and currently run by Quentin Tarantino) last November. The theater is crap, the film print was patchy, but the film itself as glorious as the day it came out in 1981. I also purch...

Adding to my must-watch list right now, as well as some of David Lean's selected works which I remember seeing as a kid, but for some reason didn't stick in my mind nearly as much as Mann's offerings. There is the fact that I'm 'just' middle-aged at 37 . ... 

Saw it when I was 10 and have watched it every year since. It seemed to be James Caan's favorite movie too as I heard him mentioned it many times in interviews when asked.

For the tennis fans here, that can be a controversial take. Novak Djokovic probably has the greatest claim to the title of tennis GOAT in terms of records and stats. Rafael Nadal also deserves to be in the conversation, with an absurd 13 french open title...  

on your sentiments regarding Federer, and I say and think this as a person of Serbian ethnicity!! I like and respect Djokovic a great deal, but Federer is unsurpassed in terms of sheer elegance and beauty of the game he has played so poignantly.... Cheers...

. . . sure. Paths of Glory is a favorite. But his directorial skills, in my estimation, are of a conservative nature. His films are compelling, but it's hard to claim any as pure cinematic art save for 2001 . When critics are studying our era a thousand y... 

For me, I could watch 2001, Shining, Clockwork, Barry Lyndon, or Eyes Wide Shut at any time. I respond to Kubrick’s use of color, dead-pan/bleak-comedy (one step darker than black comedy) pauses, anti-authoritarian themes, and slow burn zooms… just find t...

I love some of Kubrick's work, but not all, and after all he has significantly influenced the people whom I actually like the most. Irrespective of all that, the filmmakers whom I like best are simply the people whose philosophical and aesthetic sensibili...
