My cue maker has teak . . .

 

. . . from the deck of the battleship USS California, but I think he uses it just for decoration, not for shafts or handles.  Light, both physically and in terms of coloration, teak is extremely durable, and while we know it primarily as deck planking material, it's also used for construction and furniture in southern Asia.  There are two beautifully carved teakwood chests from Thailand in my parent's living room.
