Persimmon wood, Wood.....
You mentioned persimmon was used for golf clubs Art. I dug out my old H & B ( Hillerich & Bradsby ) 5 wood as a prop. Hillerich and Bradsby is the famous maker of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat. Hillerich & Bradsby - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . This 5 wood is entirely shaped by hand from a solid block of persimmon and finished by hand.
The club have an individual serial number. The distinct click , feel and feedback from these persimmon woods were magical. Cheaper wooden woods used laminated wood.

. . . the crystal is highly reflective, so it's hard to get a decent shot of the dial. This was the best of more than sixty wrist shots taken yesterday, and still not entirely satisfactory. Art

Persimmon is not only a beautiful hardwood . . .
. . . but also useful. Gold club wood heads were commonly made of persimmon, way back when.
