The 20th century editions of the Camille Desfontaines book
Les grands ouvriers français were illustrated by Ferdinand Raffin (1870-1948) and Raffin's Breguet is more familiar to the Breguet fan than the Georges Henri Ballot Breguet. Enclosed is a drawing of Victor Hugo by Ferdinand Raffin.
Ferdinand Raffin's Breguet will remind Breguet fans of A.-L. Breguet as Breguet appeared in the 1820-1821 series (190) of lithographs made for the l'Institut Royal de France by Julien-Léopold Boilly (1796-1874); the Boilly (l'Institut Royal de France) Breguet often appears in the Breguet literature e.g. George Daniels
The Art of Breguet, Thomas Engel's
A.-L. Breguet: Watchmaker to Kings, David Salomons'
Breguet (1747-1823) etc.
As can be seen in the enclosed Breguet lithograph from A.-L. Breguet: Watchmaker to Kings the image is attributed to the father Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761-1845) so it may be the the lithographs were based on the father's paintings---I do not know, Breguet experts or French art experts please chime in, thank you.
