In addition to the new Saxonia date, we have a new Saxonia thin - Black Gold Flux.
Beautiful, yet very dressy piece. In a world where there are very few black tie events for now...so perhaps an aspirational piece in that regard.
I wish it were somewhat smaller...even 38 or 39 mm would be better. 40mm and 6.2mm thick is approaching pancake proportions. But it looks proportional and good in pictures.
Stunning dial. More masculine than the 39mm blue dialed version. Standard Lange hand wound movement.

Yes, they released some nice models recently, but they were limited.

I think these limited editions are designed to strengthen brand equity. Can't fault Lange for that, even if as consumers it is not always a good result.

I love the copper blue but the 40mm case turned me off. At 37mm it would have been a home run in my eyes.
For me, the 40mm would actually be perfect. I liked the blue copper one, but it‘s a bit too small for me. Now they release a black 40mm version, but that one is limited to a degree, that I won‘t be able to get it....

There are quite a number of Lange boutiques and allocating two to each of them would equate to demand exceeding supply. The 1815 ultra thin honey gold was limited to 175 pieces yet they all sold out within less than a few days irrespective of the relatively high price.

This will be a good test of the effects of COVID-19...
It seems like there's much more high-end watch activity in the past 6-8 months, with COVID-19, since people with money aren't spending it on anything else and are sitting in front of their computers more than usual. We've seen this with other brands (such as Rolex). So I wouldn't be surprised if these do sell out pretty quickly, especially since they're not one of Lange's more expensive offerings. Now, if we look ahead to 2022-23, I wonder if we'll see half a dozen preowned pieces always available for purchase and at a discount from the original selling price.
I also don't know if Lange boutiques will sell these to first-time customers or if they'll reserve them for folks with prior purchase histories (either at the boutiques and/or at Lange ADs).

I managed to get the 38mm 1815 ultra thin honey gold and that is about the right. size Not sure why Lange went for 40mm apart from the fact that they are able to charge more than the 40mm Saxonia thin but there is little doubt that all 50 will find owners quickly.
Yes, I had this reaction to other previous Langes...
Here are the casebacks of two 1815 Moonphases. The movements are the same diameter, but the case diameters are different: The 212.050 (left) is 37.4mm, and the 231.031 (right) is 35.9mm. The ratio of metal caseback rim to sapphire glass is perfect for the watch on the right but much too large for the watch on the left, in my opinion.

must be attractive on the dial side and also have a movement that is well finished and fills up the case back. And when I say 'my very small collection', I am not being modest at all as I have decided to weed out my watches including almost every Patek and keep fewer than 5 watches. Not easy but it is being done,.
