Casual wear?
I am increasingly fascinated with this brand, but still trying to understand all aspects. The watches are gorgeous, but on a very sophisticated level, and far away from sporty... Without a Lange equivalent to say, an Aquanaut or Nautilus - do you find yourself using your Langes more during certain parts of your day, and shifting for another brand at more relaxing times? (Or perhaps I am speaking nonsense, and most people use their Langes for everything but sports?)
I guess another way of looking at it: when I come home from work, I tend to dress down quite a bit, and put on a more sporty watch like my rolex Sub. Do you do something similar, but with one of your Langes?
I hope the question makes sense, guess I feel overwhelmed to an extent, like I need to dress up to wear one of these watches.

Lange is very staid and formal in general
but the first time I saw a Dato in person was on the wrist of Steve H, who I believe was still in his twenties! And casually attired, and it looked sensational.
I myself wore a Patek 3940G everyday for a couple years with anything and everything.
Truth is, 99.9% of all humans don't even 'see' your watch, and that last .0000000001% is you and us.
Be yourself, there's no rules here.

Some thoughts

Very valid question; and one I pondered with for a while during my initial stages of learning and wonderment of the Lange world. I was worried they would not transfer well between casual and formal settings as I too am mostly casual away from work. I have found however, that Lange watches mold well into the surroundings and give you a sense of confidence no matter the situation.
I agree they wouldn't be described as 'sporty', however that doesn't decrease their wearability.
Although they won't dress down to the degree of a Sub or Nautilus, I would argue with anyone saying I should refrain from strapping on mine with jeans and a t-shirt. Besides, unless you are lucky enough to work with other WIS, wearing a Lange is like having a secret out in the open.
Dressing down Rg wasn't as difficult as I initially thought;

Would I wear one while skiing? Not a chance

What Lange pieces are speaking to you most? I hope to add a few more to my collection in the next few years and have no worry that they will be just as suited in the office as they would be with friends at a pub.
Nicolas - such a great shot of the Langematik Anniversary, that piece instantly became one of my favourites when i got to handle it last month.

I struggled with that very same question myself! I have immense respect for Lange and I think their production process has more "honesty" than other brands. Perhaps I'm being naive but it seems the way they do things, it's really hard to ramp up production numbers quickly. In any case, I feel I'm not ready to don something that formal, so I found a way to straddle sporty and formal - in the form of a DB27! It is equal parts both and superbly comfortable; I wear it daily and it just won't come off!!

Secretlife, not OT - as I guess you had similar concerns as me. I am quite sure I will end up with a Lange, though - but will take my time to find that perfect combination. The fun is in the hunt!

Nicolas showed two of my favorite. But today I was wearing the Dato, all day. Starting with my Jack Nicholson look of all black with a yellow tie and black sport jacket, the switched for casual dinner to black jeans. The Dato all day. Extremely versatile piece

I think it is possible
depending on the color of the case. For me, almost all white metal watches can be worn quite casually. I often wear this one with jeans etc...

Yes, the Dato, generation 1 - it really seems to be a center piece along with the Lange 1...can't wait to try those 2 on some day!

I like how you posed the question/scenario...
I hardly ever change watches during the day (e.g., at the end of day), and I never wear a suit or dress up. So, I basically always wear a Lange while dressed informally. You SHOULD NOT feel like you need to dress up to wear a Lange -- no worries whatsoever about that!
One of the many things I like about Lange is that most of their watches really transcend context -- formal, informal, etc. -- except, as you note, Lange hasn't produced a sports watch (and I'm in the camp that hopes they never do!).
[That being said, I do trade off between Langes and some other brands for days at a time. For example, I've been wearing the Lange Zeitwerk Striking Time for about 2 weeks -- a very long time for me -- but tomorrow I'm switching to an Omega Ploprof (new version, not vintage). I guess I feel the need to stick with big watches for now!]

Thanks for the response CR, that is another take/use scenario - but good to know you switch it up once in a while with other brands. I used to wear only Panerai for many years, so used to big watches! (Despite my tiny wrists). I will take your advice and make sure not to feel pressured to dress up for a future Lange, thanks

.. it really fits to you. I agree with CR. In my line of business today, I seldom wear suits, but I constantly wear Lange and I am happy with it.... So, no need to worry. Um, except for super water resistance, though.

My Grosse Langematik
I often wear my Grosse Langematik in casual or smart casual situations and I have to admit I quite like it.
It works perfectly with a pair of jeans and a shirt, with or without jacket.

Agreed, 99% formal brand
Most Langes are formal only. No doubt. While some have a picture of a sweater and dressy Lange and say it is casual, it sure does not look casual (not in the PP 5711 5167 or Rolex Sub casual) way.
That said, I find the Lange 1 darth and Dato and Double Split to be the 3 standouts. These truly exude a casual sense to them and go great with jeans and a t shirt.
