Memories... BMW 840 / 850 CI and 850 CSI.
From the 90ies. For sure, some of us remember these Grand Tourers from that era.

Of course, the 850 CSI is the most desirable for me, with its powerful 12 Cylinders, 5, 6 liters delivering 375 HP, and its manual gearbox.
But just after , I preferred the 840 CI with its 285 HP and which also came with a manual gearbox ( with the possibility to get the automatic gearbox ).
The 850 CI delivered 300 HP.
While the front and the profile still look modern, the rear suffers a bit, now... Maybe some thinner rear lights would have changed that.
But one thing is sure, if you want to travel fast, and with some comfort, these 8xx CI were and still are a good choice.

There were a few 1990/1 850i's made with a manual transmission. It was an option no one wanted, a few hundred were made I believe. When they switched over to the 850Ci the manual option was dropped.
Tempting, isn't it? Especially for the price of a " vulgar " small electric car... ;)
There are quite a lot young timers which are very tempting... Like the Mercedes SL 500 from the same era... Which you can get for around 25 K Euros

IMHO funnily the 4 door g14 is more gorgeous than the g15 coupe
There are a couple of these cars in my neighborhood.
And they are gorgeous machines. If I were to be super critical - I would say the exteriors are beautiful and have aged well - BUT the interiors have not aged as well for some reason.
Too much black plastic inside unfortunately. The 560 SEC and 600 CL were more
cosy inside than the BMW,’s 8 series.
'Grand tourers', of course. Never quite quick enough. Mind you, a pale green 840Ci is being restored at my local independent BMW garage and it's tempting.
Yes, you're right, of course. It would make an excellent holiday car: big engine, comfortable interior and big boot.
850i AC Schnitzer
My cousin owned a 850i manual during the late 90ies, I still remember I was gobsmacked by the power it delivered. The 300 hp engine had been tweaked to around 330 and it easily reached 300 kph on the clock.
One evening I was doing 170 kph with the Bimota, on my trailer behind the Audi ;-) and my cousin flew past me doing 270 being followed by another friend on a Bimota SB6 (Suzuki 1100 engine) less than one meter behind lol

.On another occasion while riding my CBR600f2 I spotted an 840i, we both took of and I tried to overpass him on the first lane as he wouldn't let me through ... at one point doing 250 kph and not being able to go faster we were simply head to head, both full throttle as the topspeed of the 840i was limited to 240 unlike the 250 limited top speed of the 850i (which was obviously removed at my cousin his car , LOL again). Official top speed of my CBR was also 240.

.. were 3 piece Hartge19 inch ... that was back in 1995 .. and I have to correct it was a Hartge tuning with Csi exhaust, mirrors, body parts and not AC Schnitzer.
