Patek Philippe

The month on my Patek Philippe 5270G-001 I purchased last month from a large Patek AD (who also sells preowned, one of the largest in the world ) on April 3rd will not change over. The issue didn’t become apparent to me until May 1st, which was the first changing-of-the-month since I purchased it on April 3rd. On May 1st, it never changed over from April to May in the month window — the “APR” simply dropped a few millimeters but never actually changed over. At that point I became quite concerned. It gets hung up slightly and doesn’t change. All other windows, functions, etc. work and change over flawlessly. I tried all 12 months, set it to the 30th or the 31st allowed it to manually tick over and all other complications related to the date change over except the month which gets hung up and never changes consistently across all 12 months. What is the issue here and is there anything I can do? I am quite unhappy about this and having to send this watch off to Henri Stern not to be seen for 6 months is just not acceptable to me even if the cost of repair is taken care of. The Patek AD says they have other watchmakers who they work with that can fix this which is not at Henri Stern. When I questioned them, they told me they have worked on Sky Moon Tourbillon, etc. and this was an easy and quick fix and no need to send the watch to Henri Stern for it to disappear for six months. I’ll refrain from naming the AD for now, but this whole situation is very concerning. A simple refund isn’t possible as the deal involved a trade of two other watches of mine that have since been sold. What do you guys make of this? What recommendations do you have?

... needs a service at Patek. They will fix everything. The downside is the wait (3-4 months). I would have a word with the seller - although they did not realize about the problem most likely. Just bad timing :-(

and rather have it sent to Patek. Chrono QP can only be done in very few places without making a compromise.

Call their Customer Service dept. and ask for Israel. I've spoke with him often and he fits the definition of "Customer Service". I would like to think they will take cafe of everything , including shipping, to make your Patek function as it should. BTW: Tell Israel that Miki said hi.

In fact this is not ever their fault.. it is just a mechanical problem that will happen sometime to any mechanical watch. A quick services at PP services centre will fix it no problem.

not saying you did but perhaps PO or while being admired for purchase by someone. I was more or less wondering if this is the symptom that would be seen ?

can also happen without making any faulty adjustments. Had the same problem recently.

However I’m sure it could just be a minor mishap on their end, I wouldn’t trust my watch with watchmakers outside of Patek. With Covid-19 I’m sure the service department is short handed, so the turn around time maybe longer then expected. Hopefully this works well for you, a shame to see such a blemish on this beauty.

Just wanted to chime in.  Definitely send to PP, don’t have anyone else open that watch.  If something happens, you may end up with a frankenwatch with parts from other references or worse polished parts that are not PP certified.  I’m sure you paid a pretty penny for the watch so make sure you do right with your money by parking the watch at PP and nowhere else.

The AD that you recently sold you your watch should bear the full responsibility for having your timepiece either repaired or replaced.
If you bought your watch NIB then I would insist on a replacement other wise the AD needs to send it to Stern. Maybe even give you a loaner Patek

These are what 10 years old at this point. The early ones are dried up and are in need of an overhaul. Unless you bought with paperwork showing a full PP overhaul, in the past few years, it is a fact of life. Service it and move on is all you can do, unless your seller gave you a warranty of some kind. I would not wait, either, as the day/date wheels are directly attached to the underlying gears so bending is occurring not just sticky stuck wheels.

It was recently bought, new or used, from a Patek AD and you would think that it came with a minimum 90 day warranty - Yes?

Definitely needs serviced. The wheel and mechanism are out of alignment and are not cycling through correctly.

I don't think it is good practice at all to use their in house watchmaker for a grande complication piece. Even if the watch comes back "working" you will have no idea on what damage will have been done where you can't see. These are super finely finished parts and, although it takes forever, it is a much safer bet that the Patek watchmakers won't leave marks on parts and will stand behind their work. Also, they have access to all the possible parts they need and will be far more likely to "fix" a bad or marginal part rather than using a brand new one.They simply won't waste their time with a bad job... 

It's totally reasonable for them to offer that their watchmaker fix it, and I personally would have no problem with this solution.

So there is only one solution: let it be send for a service at PP. 6 months will go by quickly and you can look forward getting your wonderful watch back.
