Suggestions if I want to rhodium plate a WG patek?
I know purists won’t like this so I apologize upfront.
Here’s the story, let me know what you think. The 5170g black dial is my favorite watch design. But I just *hate* Patek’s white gold. It’s yellow colored and I just can’t get over it - it clashes with my skin tone and looks dull/dirty
So I was thinking how can I fix this - maybe just rhodium plate it through a custom watch shop? Artisans de geneve or something?
Or I’m open to other suggestions. The 5370p is close in aesthetic but just is too thick for me. I own a 5170p which is great obviously but I really want the black on black look. Maybe I can find a 5170g dial and put it in a 5170p case? Pretty expensive proposition though

I’ll be totally honest my friend, but the very thought of any Patek watch going through that type of abuse makes me cringe…
Not sure if that’s because I am a “Purist” or because they are artworks, but either way….a huge No from me!😉
As a more straightforward suggestion, since you hate Patek’s white gold: why don’t you only consider their offering in other metals, if there is something that you like, and just leave their G models to other customers to enjoy in an original state?

Besides, a bit of extra 🌞 is healthful (and usually inexpensive).
Have you tried the 5370P?
It wears nicely and hides its heft well versus something like a Datograph. I had a 5170 and don’t feel the 5370 is a leap in wearability. In the words of Ferris: “It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.”
Never got my hands on one (but took Ben Clymer’s view and lots of videos)
Into consideration (Ben clymer recently talked about how it just doesn’t wear correctly; said similar about 5204)

Don’t believe the hype.
Try it in person. Ben is a nice guy, but his wrist is not yours. If the $$ are really not an issue I’d be shocked if you didn’t keep it on your wrist.
PP has been rhodium coating wg longer than not so it is probably fine... but I wouldn't do it
If only because its not a durable coating so you can wear and scratch through it. Easy enough to replate but personally I don't like the idea of coatings that easily scratch off revealing a different color even if in this case it would be very subtle. There is a reason why PP moved to unplated wg eventually.
I totally understand, I prefer all the other white metals to wg, but in this case I would just leave it or pick a different watch. The plating is suboptimal and getting a platinum case or black dial would likely be costly enough you'd be a good chunk in your way to another watch.

Your watch should adapt to you...
...and not vice versa. Therefore if you think you need to rhodium plate your watch to enjoy it in full just do it. IMHO, of course and please bear in mind that I've never owned a Patek so what do I know?.
