This watch was issued in a limited edition of 100 pieces, in 2006 to celebrate the opening of the Patek Philippe Salon in Geneva.
Some thoughts on the Patek Philippe 5105P.
It is one of these wonderful rectangular cases from Patek, along with the 5100 and the 5500 ( also called Pagoda ). Deliciously cambered, the platinum case is something to see in real life to fully appreciate it.
The proportions are perfect in my opinion, for a watch of this kind: 54 mm long, 25 mm large.
The other spectacular detail is the shape of the sapphire glass, with matches with the case, cambered, then. It is a bit high, and generates some distortion, which pleases me a lot.
In comparison, the dial is very sober and classic, with its Roman XII and its small seconds. Typically Art Deco!
Turn the case, and you will have a nice last surprise: The movement. The Cal 9.90 has been conserved for many decades ( end 50's? ) in the drawers of the brand, before being used in this watch.

Curiously, it didn't receive an hysterical welcome when it was unveiled. The Steel Calatrava 5565 was more the taste of the collectors, at that time, which was also made for the same event.
Maybe because it is a rectangular watch? Maybe because of its thick sapphire glass? I don't know...
But I find it quite delicious.

I find this type of "tank" watches very classy!
And you can dress them down with textured straps (tan, taupe, for example) which makes them look über-cool!

you've captured this timepiece very well...
when I saw this timepiece in metal - more than the case design, I fell in love with the sapphire crystal and the movement !
the movement finish is stunning, probably the best I've seen in any Patek.

Not so long, you could get a 5170 with a good discount. Same for the 5960, and well, at its time, the 5110 and 5130. In fact, a lot of them.

Looking at it is making me waver in my commitment to getting a 5100 some day! Maybe I should be hunting this instead
As a fan of the 5100, I would favor the 5100G which is one of the rare targets I have from Patek. But owning these 2 references would be THE solution. ;)

I suspect the 3-dimensional sculpting of the case and crystal (which are very evident when looking at the various side profiles of the watch) gave some customers second thoughts. I personally really like this watch, although definitely out of my $ range :-(
The 5565 is definitely more popular.
But you know me... I like Art Deco style, and this one pushes my buttons! By the way, that movement is so nice! So much nicer than anything Patek Philippe makes nowadays for a "standard" watch.
It would be nice if they reinvigorated the Gondolo line...

Agreed. But until then, I'll live with my Reverso.
At least I've got one Reverso. I like it. It might not have a movement with great finishing, but it works pretty well overall!
