After lurking on a few different occasions. Decided to pull the trigger, and it doesn’t disappoint! Unique ticking with indirect centre seconds as well. Have a great weekend ahead!
And narrowed down to 40-60s VCs and Breguet Empire era. Breguet is very difficult to find sources of information and I felt that I don’t know enough to pull the trigger given the chance. With VC I had an opportunity to purchase the 4217 with indexes and even Arabic numerals which is one of my favourite dial design, and for some reason I decided to take my time to sit back and make sure it is really the right piece. Then all of the sudden I found this Patek ref.1509 with tear drop lugs, coincidentally, my favourite design (my dream watch being Vingt-8!). To be honest, the timing is too good to be true.
The seller isn’t the original owner and servicing history is unknown. I think the case has been lightly polished at some point, given the age. Nonetheless, It is truly stunning!
Indirect centre seconds movement is one that they modified from movement with small seconds running at 6 o’clock by adding gears to relocate the seconds to the middle. Here is a good article: https://revolutionwatch.com/the-evolution-of-the-patek-philippe-calatrava-movement/
I think I'd have to be a watchmaker to follow everything they're describing but I understand now what indirect center seconds means. Thanks for the info.
I have ref.1289 that I picked up last year. Dated back in 1961. The patina is great. Downside is being a very small piece, it is abit difficult to wind.
