I think it looks good on all the watches
pictured. A dress watch does not always have to be "dressy".

My thinking:
Yes for the nautilus, possibly yes for the pilot (even though somehow the color combination works less well for me) and rather not for the calatrava and worldtime chrono.
And to precise my thoughts, it just a guts reaction based on looks and colors, not undue restriction/fear in terms of dress watch.
For instance I believe the last two (calatrava and WT C) would both fit very well with a saffiano leather or possibly even sailcloth if the finish is more clean and that would dress these down seriously .. while retaining more the look.

And of course, as they say in French “gouts et couleurs…”

I think I fully agree with you, even if I can feel deep inside me that I tend to be more univocally hostile to the Denim strap.
But, as you say, for the Nautilus and maybe the Pilot, why not?

I have never liked denim straps. I like interesting, colorful straps, depending on the watch, but denim never appeals to me.
It always looks cheap (even if it's not).
I am in this camp...
Denim straps take away from just about any watch and none of the above combinations look right to me. I would rather see Nubuck or Suede or even Sailcloth.
I'm glad you two feel that way and say it.
Deep inside me, I feel the same way. But then I ask myself if I'm not being too conservative and narrow-minded: as Jerome says just above, for the Nautilus and maybe the Pilot, why not?

I believe they look cool
I think they are doing it to save money and keep with the trend of not using animal.
I would also think that it's their way to please a younger clientele.
