All things except looks and appeal aside , which one speaks the loudest to you?

In other words, if you were shown a picture of these watches and had to choose one without knowing anything about their movement, price, case size, resale value, discontinued/newness, functions, popularity, collectability, etc, which one do you like best based on looks alone, left or right? (pics from dealers' sites)

I've decided which one I like but was just curious which one other PP fans find apealing.

5146. I think white gold. The yellow gold is very appealing, but in the end I thought it had to be white gold, as I found it odd and slightly unsettling having a yellow, almost "sunny" Moon. Maybe I ought to find myself a good psychiatrist. I like the arabic numerals and although I was quite neutral to the Moon calendar, I have to say it is stunning. The photograph really does it no justice. The dial actually has a texture. I wish was a better photographer to show it. Sorry I gave a long reply to a simple question. As a newcomer to Patek, I did not want to start another "new arrival" thread, but given half a chance I thought I could share some of my thoughts on this fine, understated, elegant watch that has only just arrived home. On the other hand, if you like yellow gold I would say go for 5035, as it has no sunny moon and the dial is cleaner.

Simply because of the classic roman numerial dial.

In my eyes, the left also just seems to fit all together more, while the right lacks that "something", you know, that added touch of color which a moon phase would give. Actually, both photos are of red gold version, which I have decided on as the metal I want.

Since the 5146R isn't out yet, I haven't seen it. But I have seen the 5035R and I really, really do like the looks of the Roman numerals much better. They give it a more classic look, which in my eyes, "makes" the watch. But without the moon phase, it does look kind of plain.

I was faced with similar choice a couple of years ago. I was not completely happy with 5146 as I found it too “loud” for my taste. I decided to defer my purchase.

A couple of month later I came across the 5146 in white gold and slate-grey dial. That did it for me.

My choice then: left, but in white gold!

More complications are always better than less, but the right is the first annual calendar design and houses the original movement that won numerous awards (and arguably instigated other watch houses to produce their own versions of the annual calendar mechanism).  I believe that it will always have a special place among collectors and enthusiasts of watches in general.

The right.  It is classy.  The left newer version, don't like the dial at all.  They are trying to cater to a younger buyer.  It lacks character, in my opinion.
