I have been searching for an ultimate watch for myself. I am not a "REAL WIS" but have kept up a healthy interest for myself. I narrowed it down to 2 brands for various reasons ... AL & S and Patek. As much as I like Patek, I realized that I would have to eliminate the brand because..
1) I want my ultimate watch to be cased in Platinum
2) I ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY cannot stand the hidden diamond. Yes, it is hidden and subtle, but I know it is there.. It is my eyes and it will drive me nuts.. DEFILING the otherwise beautiful watch and case if you ask me..
Should I hold out any hope that Patek with stop this obnoxious (to me) practice of putting a diamond in every PT cased watch?
in my list of things that bother me
Although I could easily do without it, and even I am bothered by the silly cabochon sapphire that Glashütte Original puts on the crown of their platinum pieces. As usual, Lange gets it right.
Best
Andreas
but this is the Patek forum and we are going to see the pinnacle of wealth-driven trivia here, yes? No? I don't see the problem.
To Mostel: Thank you.
To those who suggest earlier PP’s : A) some of them are smaller than I like and B) I had my heart set on a new one. But thank you for the kind suggestions and the effort of researching earlier models.
To Tony: The point is that I know it is there, I can see it and that is the aspect that bothers me the most.
To Michael Chang: Your opinion is different than mine, but I respect it and shows that some folks like it.
To Andreas: You had me laughing. Utter disgust is what comes to mind when I see the cabochon crowns in a Man’s watch.
To those suggesting that I get an ALS and be done with it.. I probably will but I really like some of the the Patek design aesthetics better and hence the lament. As much as I like the clean design of ALS they come across as a bit “cold” to me with the exception of the 1815 which I am considering. PP’s 5196G is a prime example of clean design that is …well… not as cold. Wish the PT version was just like the WG version or at the very least did not have the little diamond.
To the flamers and detractors… well.. the less said the better.
BTW, is PP_Geneve really a PP representative? Marketing slogan aside, PP did not even dignify me with a response when I sent a polite email asking if there were possibilities in the future of Platinum Patek’s without the Diamond.
Still holding out hope that I can own (and is PP_Geneve really a PP representative ?) a PP in the future with Oscillomax and PP will oblige and make some pieces in Platinum that I like without the Diamond. Never know.
rpilot:
where did you get the idea that "is PP_Geneve really a PP representative"? i never made such a claim, neither did i ever post anything worth of being suspicious of speaking with the authority of pp.
yes, i use "PP" and "Geneve" in my acronym, but thereby i don't intend to imply any official or real connection with PP, except of being a great fan thereof. otherwise, i might start to guess that rpilot is a fighter pilot in real life or that someone calling himself "captain america" on a comics forum is actually walking around with red boots...
also, regarding "PP did not even dignify me with a response when I sent a polite
email asking if": i was not able to read -let alone dignify- your email because a) you don't know my email address, and b) i never got any message from you in my message box on this forum in the first place...
furthermore, assuming that you registered a week ago and send me a message a few days ago: even if i would have received your message -which i didn't!- you should have the patience to wait at least 1 week, or resend the message, before expressing your disappointment regarding me, or any other member on this forum.
anyway, welcome here! and no: i'm not working for PP (maybe i should send them my cv?).
well... on a second thought: i wonder if there actually is a representative of patek HQ registered in -or merely reading- this forum...
