Hi everyone,
I just spent two very fulfilling days in Geneva:
- two visits over three hours each to the Patek Philippe Museum (so many wonders to (re)discover and understand and so much material for coming posts),
- several watch try-ons: Roger Dubuis, Franck Muller, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, Jean-Marc Fleury, Panerai, Omega (many posts I will try to make in the future),
- and, last but certainly not least, a visit to Laurent Ferrier.
And for me, as clearly as crystal is clear, one single watch stands out and rules them all: the Laurent Ferrier Tourbillon Double Spiral in 2N Yellow Gold with a White Enamel dial and Roman numerals, ref. LCF001.02.J1.E10.

I've been told how rare this exact configuration (yellow gold, white enamel, Roman numerals) is, even though it's what earned the watch the award for best men's watch at the 2010 GPHG (prize list here).
And I would be all the more proud, extremely proud indeed, if the next one were made for me.
Unfortunately, this is not likely in the immediate future, but such a watch deserves to be considered a long-term project and achievement.
I was able compare it to the recently released platinum case/teal dial variant, ref. LCF001.P1.EVC1.
But there wasn't the slightest shadow of a doubt for me.
The original yellow gold version is just so much more to my taste!
To the point that I had trouble stopping wearing it and taking pictures of it.
Of course, my red gold micro-rotor with a slate dial comes close and I like it dearly.
But the Tourbillon with an enamel dial reigns on a different level.
A true masterpiece and definitely a true grail for me (and I weigh my words, here).

And the one you show is probably just as great as the one I've tried one.

The only thing that matters is finding the watch and configuration which deeply resonates with you.
And when you do, it's wonderful.

Just curious is the hinged case back the only thing covering the movement, or is there another case back behind it?
It's absolutely wonderful.
And so is the 2N yellow gold case (2N is as light as yellow gold can be - LF told me that he would have liked it to be even lighter but that was not really/easily possible).
And so is the movement and so are the hands.
I've tried on many watches over the last few years and this particular one is really something else (for me, of course).

I totally get your obsession with this particular LF.
It embodies the apex of stylistic and technical features you have pointed out, on numerous occasions, appeal to you the most. Personally, I'd go for the platinum case, teal dial variant 😉👌. It is of course a matter of personal taste, I'm fully aware of it, and the pt/teal variant is definitely just as great as the OG one.
Simply, the OG moves something very deep inside me: it just works for me and speaks to me in a way very few other watches did.
I'll try to work on the next posts, but will be a bit busy during the next couple of days.

I know the feeling exceedingly well.
I think the only time I've felt THAT consumed with a timepiece was when I saw the Reverso Gyrotourbillon IV at the factory. Nico was witness to my total amazement with that watch. 😊

Great post. I’ve been spending a fair amount of time looking at LF the last several months and debating my first LF vs PP for my next watch.
You raise a very interesting point though. Get my first LF or wait and save for the ultimate - the double spiral. Did you like the white gold version with the black dial also? For coloured metal I usually prefer rose gold to yellow gold. May I ask what was it about the yellow gold double spiral that set it above the rose gold version? Thank you Emmanuel.

But, first, I much prefer manual winding movements because I enjoy the daily winding ritual so much. So the tourbillon is more appealing to me than the micro rotor (even if the haptic winding feedback is excellent on that watch too, surprisingly).
Also, what I’m personally looking for is a timeless and understated watch, deeply rooted into tradition and feeling precious yet as indifferent to any fashion or trend as can be: yellow gold, with its light (lighter) tone and long lasting existence just seems to convey this feeling even more and in a greater way than rose gold (forgive my awkward English).

Stunning...because also it has so much craft involved in its construction that you won't realise till you look deeper. Enamel dial, roman numerals...yellow gold..I like this trio. I guess wen you've seen it all, there will come that ONE WATCH...that rules them all!

I’ve always felt attracted to the Laurent Ferrier Galet
because its aesthetic corresponds to what deeply resonates with me: elegance, discretion, timelessness. And it’s why I ended up buying my micro-rotor. But this particular yellow gold tourbillon is pure magic. Hopefully I’ll make it mine in a few years. It’s far from certain but I’ll see if I can make it happen.
