and while I know the vast majority of people are loving this release, for me the jury is still out, the older references have more charm. I think it's the sapphire glass, on the new version it is just "flat" whereas for example on my 09 there is more depth, distortion, more character.

...out of sheer curiosity, I've looked at my 009 from all sides and I didn't see any dome. I have a 009Pre-A, which model is yours?

about the Sapphire crystal. I went to try on a Tudor Pelagos and I coulda sworn there was NO crystal on those watches. No reflections, no distortion, no raised edge...nothing. It was kinda weird.
+1 for the glass: the magic distortion of the earlier version is impossible to beat with these plain sapphire!
I totally understand what you mean. The Pre V is the king and will remain the king, but this one is an uber cool Prince, in my opinion. It has been a very long time a Panerai didn't move me at this point.

The new one is nice, and it sure has caused a stir with old school Panerai fans. I myself am on "the list" for it, and look forward to it arriving. But being completely honest, all - well almost all - of these modern pieces are nothing more than "inspired by" the originals. They tweak the lume and other details, but of course it can never have the character of the original. I accept that, and while I look forward to receiving it, understand it will not have that authentic charm. You have the ultimate solution - one of each!
