I have a collection of vintage wines and occasionally we open one. It is always a lottery if it has gone bad.
cork looks ok - So far, so good.

First sip. not gone bad - Phew!
Now, how does taste?
Very pleasing taste and I was honestly surprised by how ”fresh”, with dominant citrus notes for a wine that is 50 years old. Veeery smooth mouth feeling.
15 minutes later, the citric notes started to evaporate, and pleasing notes of lime stone and weak hint of pleasing mould take over the domain of the citric freshness.Still very smooth in the mouth. Even better than when it was just opened.
30 minutes after opening. The “mould” notes begin to take more dominance. Not as pleasing as before. A hint of stale although still a worthy glass. The best part is over though.
Drinking vintage wine is always really exciting. You have to keep an open mind. It can go either way. And you have to be in the mood for that. I have to say we really enjoyed this bottle. The fleeing moment of the taste changes so quickly. It is just here and now. Someone prepared this moment 50 years ago! It just struck me as fascinating. A bit of excitement on a Saturday night.
