The
yellow gold Grand Seiko “
Sakura-Wakaba” ref.
SBGH376 pays
homage to the
62GS, Grand Seiko's
first automatic watch launched in
1967.
Designed by Taro Tanaka, the case of the 62GS had a bezel-less design, with the crystal sitting directly on the case.

This modern interpretation features a
textured dial in
golden and
light green tones...

... which is inspired by the precise
moment in the
cherry blossom’s blooming cycle known in Japan as “
Sakura-Wakaba”.
It refers to the budding leaves that follow the cherry blossoms at the end of spring, which glimmer in the light as they reflect morning sun.

The 18k
yellow gold case measures
38 x
12.9 mm and has a
water-resistance of
100 m (the
crown is
screw-
down).
12.9 mm is definitely a bit
thick for a
dress watch...

The
faceted and
applied indices are
thinner,
less imposing, than on the
U.F.A. SLGB006 and I think they
look better.

Grand Seiko’s in-house
Hi-Beat automatic calibre 9S85 (36,000vph, 10 beats/sec) is
aesthetically unappealing and I would prefer a
closed caseback.

The
fit on the
wrist:
What do you
think about this
release?
I
personally find the new
SLGB006 more appealing.
