I have a Newbie question about Cartier WGSA0019
I know absolutely nothing about Cartier watches, but as a retirement gift to myself, I am considering getting in Rose gold the WGSA0019
I know it is not a collectable watch, not sure I could find a Crash, Bamboo, Platinum Cintree etc or any 1960-1970 era Cartier. Even if I found
one I would not have the knowledge or the access to determine if it is authentic. I'd probably end up buying a Mexico watch by mistake.
Sure it would be nice to get a Reverse or what not.
What is the recommendation about getting a fairly accessible and most likely very off the shelf WGSA0019 Rose Gold Santos. Do you think
I should just put off the urge to just buy it and get over it, or should I make the effort to find one of the exclusive Paris or London boutique
watches? Very likely I am going to stay under $30K as this is my current budget. I have to go buy a car too for retirement.

I am not going to tell you to buy or not buy but I own 2 Cartier de Santos in steel and I love them. The only caution I will say is that it will scratch. Otherwise best of luck on your decision. Patrick

I would personally choose a variant without the date, but it’s just my preference of course.

It's huge, but I like big watches. This particular one was already sold so I have to wait until next week for another to get shipped to my boutique. I tried to find the slightly smaller no date version but apparently that was a somewhat limited watch and there are no more in the US. The medium with no date after seeing the big one just lacked the shock and awe of this one she brought out from the back.
My DNA loves dive watches so maybe this is a compromise between a Deepsea Seadweller and a Tank Louis?

I have a SS Santos Medium in my "someday" file.
Being a square watch they do tend to wear a bit larger than their stated size indicates. Also the medium is no date that I feel is a positive attribute on this particular watch. If you haven't already done so I'd encourage you to read through "Geo" s posts on this site. He was pretty much THE authority on Cartier and his writing is still relevant. Here's a pic of my last encounter with a Santos. Personally I think its a bit much and given the chance I'd rather have a medium. Good luck on your quest. Can't wait to see it if it happens!
