F.P. Journe

As many of you know I have always had a deep passion for the Ruthenium collection. Not only is the dial color brilliant but the ruthenium covered movements are stunning. I remember constantly staring at the photos of the Remontoir and Resonance in the first catalogue and the rest of the set in the second edition. The photos alone stirred a strong desire to own them. I thought I would be happy with just one. This of coursed proved a fleeting idea. Over time I had collected 4 of the 5 with the Jour et Nuit the odd one out. I've said many times that it didn't speak to me, that day night indicator was too small or I didn't like the design of the indicator. Having put the piece out of mine for so long it was interesting to me how my view changed when I recently saw one. I realized that I actually liked the simplicity of the dial which appears darker then the others due to the greater amount of ruthenium covering the dial. I also noticed how that the indicator dial has a brilliant blue color that complements the hands of the watch so well. Suddenly my collection was missing something. My antenna was up in hope I would be able to buy one at a reasonable price. Patience has paid off. This past week I took delivery of the Jour et Nuit. It's been a long journey of mixed feelings and impressions. However, now there is no greater feeling then having it on the wrist. In a strange way it feels like I always had it. Some photos to share!

Yes I know the Zodiac isn't part of the 99 piece ruthenium series but in my mind there is no reason it couldn't have been. It's pretty striking on its own and certainly complements the rest of the set. You wouldn't want me to leave that sixth watch winder empty now would you?

Very impressive...I think the tourbillon is my favorite one...but wouldn't say no to any of them!

That's a collection any person would be proud of!  I agree that ruthenium is a fascinating metal and its unique color is hard to describe, but very alluring!

Your collection is a real treasure. Owning the whole set is a happiness but i bet acquiring them piece by piece over time made it even more special.

Personally, I like Resonance Ruthenium the most.

You are absolutely right. I don't think it would have been the same had I purchased the set all at once. There was so much emotion that followed after my first purchase which I recall so vividly. The piece I bought first was actually the Ruthenium Chronograph. I had it only for a short time because it had to be sent back to have a small problem corrected. During the time with out it I became obsessed with the Resonance and began to hunt the globe for it. After calling virtually every AD around the globe I finally located one at the FP Journe boutique in Tokyo. At the time they also had the Remontoir and there began the slippery slope! With that said the entire set in the special display box is impressive!

It was nice to see the Ruthenium duo yesterday.  Alright, it was nice to see you  too! 

Now tell us, what business do the resonance and tourbillon have with the winder again?

And I thought the winder was broken each time I put on the Remontoir and Resonance in it Truth is Underwood makes the best looking display cases whether you use the winders or not! Also great seeing you. Your new BMOP Calendrier is AMAZING!

Between your pics and Jester's not-so-gentle prodding of me I sense an FPJ will be coming my way very soon....even dragged wifey to the Tokyo Boutique last month when we were there....

I enjoyed reading your post.  I particularly liked the observation about not being particularly drawn to the watch in the begining, but how your opinion evolved over time. 

There is something VERY special about Ruthenium Journes!  Congrats on completing the series and thanks for sharing the photos!

How could you ever think of adding such a watch to your already perfect collection!?!?!?

It was only a matter of time before this terriffic watch joined the ranks of the worlds greatest Journe collection.  You actually were "missing" something and now it is COMPLETE!  What an amazing accomplishment and feat!  We are all inspired by your patience, loyalty and love of the work preformed on the Rue de la Synagogue. 

 You really should just  sell the other garbage in your collection - who needs it - with the Ruthenium collection, maybe two or three of your "other" rare Journe pieces - just get that GS - you know that you will never be complete without it.  You will buy 20 watches to try to satiate your desire, but, you know you want it!

My suspicion is that the G&PS shall find a way into your collection soon. The ruthenium pieces are especially striking, but you did not include the ruthenium Tokyo piece.

I decided to leave out the Tokyo's 2nd Anniversary piece because I didn't want its beautiful color combination to steal the show It wasn't until I put the entire Ruthenium Set together for the photo that I noticed how the blue color indicator disc of the Jour et Nuit brings the set to life.

Actually it doesn't surprise me at all, since it comes from you.

I have no doubt the GS will join this magnificent colletion sooner than expected.

it uses the same display system that the NHC Ottica's and other Calabrese watches use, but with the added beauty of a Tourbillon in the middle.

The Vagbondage is not a tourbillion. The open view of the balance and spring can be a bit deceiving on first glance. There is some history on this piece but in short it's a movement made for another manufacturer that cancelled the project before completion. Journe later finished the project completing 69 pieces (plus a few unique ones). Vagabondage refers to the fact that the hour marker 'wanders' around the dial until the next hour takes the lead. You'll notice no mention of FP Journe on the front only a small engraving on the movement itself.

Now you can concentrate on the GS, new Vagabondage and Centigraphe.  The road is long grasshopper.
