A. Lange & Söhne

"Vielen Dank"

Thanks a lot for this excellent dossier. I would like to mention that the energy storage device invented by F.-P. Journe includes a 'Seconde Morte' feature allowing the seconds hand jumping from tick mark to tick mark. This effect was much sought-after in the first half of the last century when quartz watches powered by stepper motors were not yet available. Today it is just the other way round. Mechanical watches ought to have a sweeping seconds hand. Although this may be very weak reasoning why Lange have decided to modify the original design by Barbezat-Bole and fit the cam controlling the remontoir to the shaft of the seconds wheel instead to the shaft of the escapement wheel.

Best regards from Germany,
Heinrich
