First time I see both side-by-side. The first gen (in black strap, Ref: 101.027) is noticeably darker and felt heavier versus the current version (in navy strap, Ref: 191.028). ...

But slight preference to the first version - preferring the deep blue dial.

Photos don't do justice to the colors.

On a close look the first gens case looks indeed a tad fatter in the photos.

But the bezel looks wider?

Looks like there is more material in the first gen, although it’s from photos and I might be wrong of course. Best option would be to weigh them and see.

Both 38.5 mm across. Thickness for the old one is 10 mm, and 9.8 mm for the new one. Movement is slightly different as well I believe...

I think I prefer the second one too. But as mentioned, hard to fully appreciate and evaluate in pictures.

Reason - on the 1st one there is an interesting interplay of colors between one hue of blue for 2 inner circles and another one for the rest of the dial. It gives a certain depth and visual interest. The 2nd one is made in one colour and, although nice, i... 

I actually prefer the newer version as I find the colour more alive and appealing and I also prefer the font used on the dial also, but i suppose really there is no wrong answer only what each of us finds more appealing. Marc

Both are beautiful.

The new Langes have noticeably less gold in the case. The movement is also larger, so it fills up the case more (gold case is obviously heavier than movement), and there is probably some intentional gold reduction in the new Lange cases - probably primari... 

It’s about bezel size and movement fit to the case.

Well, for the new Lange 1 movement, that was clearly a complete redesign and technical uplift. The original was based on a JLC movement - the new (current) one was wholly designed by Lange. Not driven by cost - but by ownership and evolution. Much more ef... 

But…either would please me just fine.
