Strong preference for the 1st one.
Reason - on the 1st one there is an interesting interplay of colors between one hue of blue for 2 inner circles and another one for the rest of the dial. It gives a certain depth and visual interest.
The 2nd one is made in one colour and, although nice, imho is more plain and less attractive.
These pictures don't show the difference, although it is there and quite well noticeable.

Blue dial Lange 1
First time I see both side-by-side. The first gen (in black strap, Ref: 101.027) is noticeably darker and felt heavier versus the current version (in navy strap, Ref: 191.028). ...
Both are appealing, but I tend to prefer the second one.

True, both are great.
But slight preference to the first version - preferring the deep blue dial.
I might feel the same way as you in real life.
Photos don't do justice to the colors.
Interesting the difference in weight.
On a close look the first gens case looks indeed a tad fatter in the photos.
A little bit yeah.
Looks like there is more material in the first gen, although it’s from photos and I might be wrong of course. Best option would be to weigh them and see.

Both 38.5 mm across. Thickness for the old one is 10 mm, and 9.8 mm for the new one. Movement is slightly different as well I believe...

I think I prefer the second one too. But as mentioned, hard to fully appreciate and evaluate in pictures.

Great looking A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Blue dial.
I actually prefer the newer version as I find the colour more alive and appealing and I also prefer the font used on the dial also, but i suppose really there is no wrong answer only what each of us finds more appealing. Marc
New Langes have less gold in the case.
The new Langes have noticeably less gold in the case. The movement is also larger, so it fills up the case more (gold case is obviously heavier than movement), and there is probably some intentional gold reduction in the new Lange cases - probably primari...
I don’t feel that volume of gold in the case (ie. saving money by using less) is a factor at Lange Uhren.
It’s about bezel size and movement fit to the case.
what is your opinion on
lange making changes to the movements to make movement cost cheaper and easier to assemble perhaps another visual example would be the zeitwerk straight remontoir bridge
