I remember when this set was released - living in the Southern Hemisphere, I had never seen a watch that correctly represented the waxing and waning of the moon from my vantage point!
Interestingly, the movement in the Southern Hemisphere model has 4 extra parts to reverse the rotation of the moon phase disc - and, apart from the reference number, that is the only difference between the calibers.
Overall, I am not a fan of the various Grand Lange 1 models where Lange chose to upsize the case but retain the base caliber - the resulting overlapping irretrievably irks me. However…I’ve always made an exception for this set, given my opening point.

Lange & Sohne Grande Lange One Luna Mundi Set. Some thoughts.
The Grande Lange One Luna Mundi came as a set of two watches, limited in 101 pieces, in 2003. One in white gold, the other in rose gold. Both versions share the same case, which is 41, 9 mm big and 10, 4 mm high. A small difference between the 2 versions?...

Absolutely stunning. But they are a little bit big for my wrist. I prefer 38,5mm for a Lange 1.
Too cool
The only thing I find too busy is the northern hemisphere one. Too much going on for me between 10 and 2. Whereas the southern hemisphere has much less going on in that portion of the dial. I think 42 mm is too large for this style of ALS. Striking exampl...

All fabulous, but my heart finds the Grande Lange One Luna Mundi Northern Hemisphere with the Ursa Major constellation most charming,
in the way of the delightful (and my favorite Lange) the 1815 Moonphase Emil Lange.
When these watches were released Lange didn’t brush rose gold.
In fact, I remember numerous posts on various forums and in the press indicating Lange felt rose gold could not be brushed and be attractive. I never understood that position as GP brushed the case sides of their rg watches-to great effect. ...
I believe ALS did not have the confidence in the patina development of their RG alloy.
The concern was that the brushed surface would take on a whole different color and clash with the polished bezel. Later, they brushed RG case sides. Either they learned that it wasn’t an issue or they modified their alloy.
I try not to make things up or let my mind trick me, so I went looking…

I want to like these...
...but to me, the beauty of the Lange 1 is simplicity. But I could be persuaded... I'm also not a fan of the moon phase being in the Hours/Minutes dial...
