One other minor change, that I can't evaluate until I've had a chance to wear a new one, is the casebase.  On the old one, the top of the sapphire was even with the caseback, it was completely flat.  On the new one, it seems the sapphire and a thin bezel are a bit above the edges, which are perhaps a bit tapered or stepped down.  I don't know if this is just a trick of the light, but if it is a design change it will probably change the wrist feel.

On the movement, I'm not a fan of the change.  Something about the new design makes it feel "cheaper" possibly the similarities between the layout (only the layout, I don't need a mob outside my house) and that of the Valgranges calibers that have become popular of late

On the front of the watch, I'm in total agreement with the Count, I like the dial and front of the watch more then the old one

The idea was to be able to enlarge the barrel in order to increase the power reserve. Power reserve of the new caliber is 72 hours while the 3/4 plate movement has a power reserve of 46 hours. And the main trouble of a 3/4 plate movement is its lay-out wh...

They increased the power reserve and kept the micro rotor, which is even smaller than this 3 Quarter rotor. To conciliate beauty and performance is not impossible: if PP did it, Lange can do it. Best, Nicolas.

You have several ways to increase the power reserve: basically, if you don't change the barrel and of course, the frequency, you have to influence the behaviour of the balance wheel. If you use new materials to lighten the balance wheel, to reduce its ine... 

On another side, is this that important ot have a 72 hours power reserve?

48 or just a bit more, that is enough... Unless Lange wants to go for a 8 Days power reserve movement, which is another story. But I wouldn't sacrifice the Lange DNA for some 24 more hours. Best, Nicolas.

I'm not sure I'd ever buy an automatic Lange. I have a fierce affinity for manual wind Langes since the pleasure to wind a Lange is so enjoyable, I wouldn't want to deprive myself of the pleasure by having an automatic. That being said, and although I am ...

that was very interesting. I have to say I prefer the old watch all the way - definitely as far as the movement is concerned but I also like the thicker and rounded bezel as something I associate with Lange and rather like. I also really like blued second... 

I may not particularly enjoy the watch
