My wife and I went to Bali 6 years ago and we saw these little animals (Luwak or civet)
They were not mistreated (at least the ones we saw) and people there only harvest their poos for coffee beans. We never tried as we don’t drink coffee too.
I fully understand your feeling about alligators and how they can be (mis)treated. It’s really something we have to keep in mind us consumers. And not only alligators but cows, chickens, pigs and so on 😕

You know, my father was a butcher and he’s still a hunter. Next week, he will go in a farm to kill and cut a pig. But I know this pig has been well treated there and had an “happy life” even if the end is not particularly nice
I prefer to see him killed by my father rather than in a slaughterhouse where animals (and people who work there too) are really mistreated. I’m not a vegan at all but I think we can reduce our meat consumption for instance which could mean less meat but ...
