Racing Sunday - Walter Röhrl

The man's a legend and while he may be most closely associated with the development of the Carrera GT or his Audi time in WRC, these all took place after his great successes. Those he achieved with Opel (European Champion 1974), Fiat (World Champion 1980), Opel (World Champion 1982), and Lancia (second in WC 1983), while with Audi he only managed third in 1985 smile

So here go some pictures of the legend (sadly did not find any of his first outings with a Fiat 850 or Alfa 1750 GTV).

Starting with the oddest Nürburgring ones you are likely to see - with Porsche:

Then his first WC title in this - Alitalia did not only look good on Lancias:

The second one in this:

And then almost again in this smile

While this broke down too often for more than third rank:

And here a bonus, with the Stratos, with which he won events in Germany in 1978 smile

As a link to last Sunday, he signed on to drive for MB in 1981 but was left twiddling his thumbs when they stopped the program...

While the likes of Loeb have had much more success, the new drivers are somehow not quite as cool as those of past generations. Or maybe I'm just getting old wink

Have a nice Sunday!
