Automotive

Spotted: Vintage and Custom

Apparently this is not supposed to be my day of rest. In less than an hour I found all these vehicles, and trust me, you can't make this stuff up!

This is an old Low-Rider, but I don't know the era well enough - can anyone recognize it as more than a 40's Chevrolet?

While staring open-mouthed at this Dualie Suburban, I got caught red-handed with camera in action, by its owner, who came driving after me in his other vehicle.

He said "Like my truck?" threateningly, and I replied "Yea man, that's why I was taking a picture of it. Never seen one like it." to which he proudly said "Made it myself".
(reminded me of the Arlo Guthrie riff on the Group W bench down at the prison, with the mother-stabbers and father ...)
We parted as friends and he sent me down the block to the other "tinkerer's house"

Where I found this rusty little English fella

AND this "home-made" Bus/Truck, as I had previously been informed by Dualie Suburban Man.

Notice the handy stool for entry.

Words fail me. Pictures will have to do.

Art car?

!

At last - something conservative, sane, middle-of-the-road, a Jeep

and then another custom 4x4 van

You might be thinking Geez, what a tank! Who would take that off-road?

Much to my surprise, I came to the National Guard facility and found a real tank!
One of the tanks stored here was stolen and driven around crushing a few things in the process. I saw it, with my own eyes, on the highway.

Now entering a more conservative neighborhood, I found a couple Dodge trucks which have been quite scarce this month

Home-made Dodge Dualie? What is it with this neighborhood and 4 wheels in the back?

This guy had dual Darts, though they were well hidden

Next there was a run of Cadillacs. This first one is for sale.

The photo is NOT accentuating its length. It IS long.

Recognize this car? We spotted it earlier in the week about 5 miles away. I guess that's no surprise, as cars can move. It's just that I don't expect these old guys to get around much. Also very LOONNGG!

I'm starting to like the Cadillac with mag wheels look

I saw this Ford truck then spotted the goodies behind it -- boat, Falcon, something else

Nice!

A whole parcel of Fords

Just when I think it's time to wrap it up, here comes an International Harvester Scout,

a Toyota Land Cruiser

I believe this is a Suzuki Samurai

Speaking of Coppertone Tan, the following two cars are suffering from the San Diego has TOO MUCH SUN syndrome

Driving home I spotted (chased down) a totally BAD NSX,

with flinty-eyed Asian driver and obligatory lady in the passenger seat

I guess we can stop here at a DeLorean

WAIT! You do want to go back in time to 1995 and see that tank driving over cars and fire hydrants all through the neighborhood, don't you??
