Some months ago I was in Germany, Trier to be precise, doing some window shopping. I was having a look at the GO dealer's wares when I noticed a Senator Panoramadatum with Navigator dial. It was priced very low so I assumed it was a used watch, perhaps a trade-in. Sadly it was not possible at the the to go in and ask about the watch.
Today I was in Trier again and the watch was still there but it had been joined by an identically priced silver dialed bro. So the "used" theory went out the door. But I went through the door and inquired about the watch.
The fact that it was gorgeous goes without saying, but the story was interesting. It appears that it is part of a series of more basic GO watches. It has no display back and a simpler finish to both case and, according to the wife of the owner who assisted me, the movement. It is part of an older batch of movements that are now used up in this way. It is meant to A) attract people on slightly tighter budgets to the brand with prices on the level of a few years ago and B) to compensate for the almost disappearance of the Union brand. The sales lady suspected that once the batch of movements was used this won't be succeeded. And if I might add my personal speculation; I think it's a Germany only thing. I know pricing is not discussed in general but let's say it's roughly 58 to 34.
Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone have anything to add?
Most curious.
