The differences between the new and the previous Saxonia design
As I wrote it in the post dedicated to the Saxonia Thin, the new Saxonia collection underwent small aesthetical changes and I would like to quickly come back to them.
Let's take the previous Saxonia Automatic:

and the new one:

These changes are:
DIAL:
- the slender bezel with inclined flange: the watch looks bigger than its 38,5 diameter.
- the longer indices
- the presence of a succint minute scale (except of course with the Saxonia Thin)
- the small second hand has the same color than the big hands (the previous collection was using sometimes blued second hands).
CASE:
- the lugs are shorter and more curved
CROWN:
- the crown is bigger to handle it easier.
These changes may appear to be very discrete but when we consider them as a whole, they contribute a lot to the evolution of the design of the Saxonia collection.
BTW, you will notice that in the current collection, there is no slate dial (I hope that it will come back) and that the Saxonia Thin, Automatic (and of course the Dual Time) are powered by new calibers.
Let's take the new Saxonia Automatic:

This central movement replaces the former 3/4 plate one (we will come back later to this replacement):

The new Saxonia Automatic has a 38,5mm diameter case while the previous one was existing in both sizes: 37mm (with date) and 40,6mm (without).
Sometimes, the small changes hide an important evolution in a collection.

The idea was to be able to enlarge the barrel in order to increase the power reserve. Power reserve of the new caliber is 72 hours while the 3/4 plate movement has a power reserve of 46 hours. And the main trouble of a 3/4 plate movement is its lay-out wh...
I totally agree with you.

For me the increase of this PR is not worth the removal of the 3/4 plate movement. But you know, to increase the PR to 72 hours allows to the owners to leave the watch for the week-end (even maybe the french clients with our larger week-ends will find thi...

One other minor change, that I can't evaluate until I've had a chance to wear a new one, is the casebase. On the old one, the top of the sapphire was even with the caseback, it was completely flat. On the new one, it seems the sapphire and a thin bezel ar...

that was very interesting. I have to say I prefer the old watch all the way - definitely as far as the movement is concerned but I also like the thicker and rounded bezel as something I associate with Lange and rather like. I also really like blued second...
