Day/Night indicator?

 

On the Lange, are you referring to the luminescent hands and dial markers?

Fun comparo. I score them this way:

Large date: FPJ - I like the single window, but the digits seem a bit misaligned here.
Moon phase: ALS - The blue with gold moon is striking.
Power Reserve: FPJ - I prefer the hour digits over the pips.
Dial location: FPJ - I like the time visible peeking from the cuff.
Dial markings: FPJ - Arabic over Roman for me.
Hands: ALS - I like the unique shape of the FPJ but they appear flat and I like the lume and depth of the ALS.
Crown: FPJ - Love the rope texture.
Case: FPJ - Thinner!
Movement: FPJ - I love automatic, especially with a PR. Fun to watch it build.
Balance: ALS.

Overall, I’d kick neither out of bed for spilling crumbs, but I think the FPJ feels more special overall when I list my preferences.

No watch brand nails the off-center dial look better than Lange.

More pop with the moonphase and you can see not a lot of empty dial space. The Journe seems like its lacking something (owing to the empty dial space)

The Journe is more whimsical but the Lange is so perfectly designed.

I prefer the Lange. Controversial opinion, but I would not consider the Journe a well-designed piece.

The Lange is much nicer and "arranged"

And its moon display is way more proportional, However, you need to see them in reality, holding them I much prefer the case structure of the FPJ and its crown, Top view wise, in reality the Lange is less vivid compared with the FPJ and the visual gap clo... 

Interesting comparison, Bob. …because the reasons behind the two watches with the similar design are very different ….

So we look at bit deeper… The Octa was designed as a base movement (automatic) with the asymmetrical layout so that it could give space to integrate different complications in to the same movement and avoid stacking. As FP says. “I don’t make hamburgers.”...  

Yes, that’s probably the takeaway point here…

and depending on one’s taste, some Journe collectors would state that the Lune came out the least successful in the Octa family because of the use of space. I think Irl it’s not as evident as when thrown in your face on a screen. Of course some also frown...

I prefer the FPJ with points you mentioned. Thinking of joining the long waitlist as well. However, there seem to be more platinum ones in the wild

While there are some similarities in the dial layouts, these are really two completely different animals.

Lange nails the Golden Ratio, which is very eye-pleasing from a technical perspective. Journe is more a blend of art and technical achievement from the perspective of a single artist. But a comparison of the two-dimensional dials is far different from act...

Beneath the moon on the Lange is another spinning disk that revolves every 24 hours. In daylight it’s a bright blue sky, at night it’s a dark blue sky with stars.

I did not know that and it is very interesting.

While I do prefer FPJ in general, in this case it‘s the ALS for me as well.

The dial is much more balanced, I like the big date window on the Lange 1 much better and I can‘t really find anything that needs improvement on the Lange 1 moonphase. It‘s just a perfect implementation and so the Journe falls off compared to it while sti... 

For me it’s the Journe. Hands down.

I find the Lange, although a lovely watch and amazing movement, colder and most austere than the more artistic and avant-garde Journe. The Lange to me is more “formulaic” in its design; golden ratio, straight lugs, case sides straight up and thicker watch...
