It lacks the movement, pedigree, originality of either the AP, PP, IWC or even VC of that period when steel luxury watches were born.

I would personally pass, but if your heart yearns for it, then go for it. That is the ultimate criterion. Things like value retention are very tricky beyond PP and Rolex, except for few specific watches from other manufacturers (like your AP) and I don't see this specific GP as such an exception.
