There is a way in which this can be most
desirable and admirable: To make
everything oneself for the sake of
quality control, authenticity, etc.
However, to aspire to use only one's
own ideas may be less felicitous.
GO didn't invent the lever escapement
[is that the correct technical term?],
so how can they use it? Reducio ad absurdum.
The new GO designs look to me in ways more
idiosyncratic than incisive.
A genius invents something that "changes
everything" in a constructive way.
A good mind cannot invent like the genius,
but it does recognize and cultivate
something of value when it comes across it,
and will choose the best over its
own, if its own is not the best.
