Glashütte Original

Senator perpetual calendar in rose gold . . .

. . . similar to the platinum limited edition of 2009 . . .

. . . and equally striking, in my opinion. Following is the press release:

"The Senator Perpetual Calendar

Art and precision engineering

German technology and manufacturing enjoy a worldwide reputation for excellence.

Master watchmakers in Glashütte, Saxony, have contributed to this reputation since 1845,

designing and building precision mechanical timepieces that represent the finest in watchmaking traditions.

A proud heir to this tradition, Glashütte Original makes exquisite mechanical watches with a distinguished,

unmistakably German look and feel. The Senator Perpetual Calendar in red gold is a superb example.

Made by hand in our Glashütte manufactory, it testifies to our ongoing quest for the perfect union

of mechanical complications and art.

Encased in red gold and featuring a matt black dial with white Roman numerals and a white minute ring,

its artistry is evident at first glance. The perpetual calendar displays are arranged to form a clear, harmonious balance,

and are easily read through the antireflective sapphire crystal. The day, month, and compelling Glashütte Original

panorama date display present white Arabic numerals against a black ground, and the phases of the moon

are revealed by a black disk adorned with silver stars and a radiant silver moon.

A discreet, unambiguous leap year display presents a red dot to indicate a leap year, followed by white, black

and yellow dots for successive years. The heart of the Senator Perpetual Calendar, easily visible through

the sapphire glass mounted in the case back, is the Glashütte Original Caliber 100-02, a superb 28,800 vph

automatic movement featuring a screw balance with 18 weighted gold screws and a power reserve of more

than 55 hours (+/- 10%). Its reset mechanism allows easy synchronization of the second hand with a time standard.

Unlike other reset mechanisms, the second hand is connected neither to the winding stem nor the crown.

As a result, when the crown is pulled out, the balance remains in oscillation and the movement continues

to run, significantly reducing material stress. Pressing a separate button on the side of the case at 8 o'clock

activates the reset mechanism. The rotor winds in both directions, providing constant power to the movement.

Enhancing the artistry of the movement's design are the movement's exquisitely finished components:

its signature Glashütte three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing, the skeletonized rotor with

21-ct gold oscillation weight, twin spring barrels and swan-neck fine adjustment.

Black Louisiana alligator or black rubber bracelets, both with foldover red gold clasps,

complement the Senator Perpetual Calendar's elegant and compelling aesthetics."

Glashütte Original made their mark with perpetual calendars, and this latest version is a credit to their long line of successful designs.
