Quartz, day-date, 300M WR, Divers bezel, great lume, looks great - black case and dial, tough as guts, About $600 though.

I have owned one for over a year. Excellent quartz accuracy, the PVD coating seems pretty tough and the NATO strap is cheap to replace. The dial is very legible. It is also a genuine military watch, although obviously the ones sold to the general public w...

As for a quartz watch for your father in law, I think a Casio, Seiko or Citizen eco drive will fit the category. They are all tough. I f you got more budget, a Tudor or Rolex submariner would be perfect.
