Yes, it's true, I called it "ridiculous", and I now concede that that was an unfair epithet. Truth be told, the Egi is not at all a ridiculous watch. It's a perfectly legitimate and (I believe) highly faithful recreation of an historic original Panerai watch.
I think most people, even dyed-in-the-wool Paneristi, concede that the Egi is too big for practical wrist time. But that's not the point of the watch, I do understand that.
In fact I even think it would be fine for a proud Egi owner to strap it on for a GTG - indeed, he/she (I do hope it's a she) will be the life of the party if they do.
However I counsel prospective Egi owners who choose to wear this behemoth in public, that the vast majority of folks out there are not steeped in the glories of Italian and Egyptian military history, and you will therefore most likely hear a snigger or two behind your back. In fact if you meet me, I will probably burst out laughing right in your face.
