Horological Meandering

Apologies...

...for the late response Andrew, but 'better late than never'.

Thank you for noticing the aftermaket strap on the IWC. As I think you may know, it's an ABP with 'gunmetal' stitching: seems to be a better match for the watch than the tan OEM strap.

As for the truncated 10 and 11 - no, it hadn't been a noticeable issue: before now, anyway!!  The dial will never look the same again.... That lovely clean white dial on your Mark XV, however, must never cease to please.

Your tidbit on the Type XXI was fascinating: the watch just seems too delicate for active service (notwithstanding its 'heft'), so it is intriguing to think that it may have spent time on the wrist of some dashing pilot in Indochina (aren't all French pilots likely to be 'dashing'?). As written elsewhere, though, the smooth motion of the large chrono seconds hand is captivating, and fairly unusual. Moreover, there would probably not be too many service-issue watches with a deep chocolate dial, and exquisite guilloche!

All the best for the Anzac weekend.

Cheers,

pplater.
