Audi/Video equipment master clocks

Hi Ken,

Yes, you are right there is another way to use the term master clock.

It also appears in a studio for recording or broadcasting. However now we are talking about master clocks that run equipment as opposed to the ones I described earlier which are generally master clocks that people use to run themselves.

In a normal consumer situation, each piece of media equipment has its own reference time driven from a quartz crystal. When you are using multiple stereo or video components in a chain, and mixing, blending, weaving in and out, plus cutting audio and video separately, it's best to have one clock for everyone. That way things can stay synchronized. That's commonly done on the high-end RECORDING and EDITING end of the media chain.

Of course, there are high-end people at the CONSUMING end of the chain, and the best of their systems are able to employ a single clock to run their playback equipment.

Is it safe to say you have a nice stereo?

(I think I know the answer!)
