Horological Meandering

Inspired by Andrew's ("219" on the forum) recent and excellent review of the Seiko diver nicknamed "Darth Tuna," and as suggested by Richard (forum handle: "RJW"), let's have a Seiko roll call! I love the brand, and think it's just a matter of time before...  

Only photo I could find of one of my dive Seikos. Terrible photo, but the watch wasn't the subject...that's my excuse. Built February, 1975. Very dinged and bashed up. If you look at the bezel serrations just under the '30', you'll see a little chunk of w...  

I love that this watch has been living its life outside the safety and comfort of a watchbox since the 70s. All that wear and tear is just proof of a life of usefulness and adventure. What a great piece, BDLJ! Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Daos

but here is my valuable collection of ultra-collectible Seiko, most notably the fine and rare Seiko 5 military of which I own five. There is one more Grand Seiko incoming as well. - SJX...

The Grand Seiko GMT next to the shrouded diver...the one-button Chrono.... All those orange faced divers (by the way, thanks for your advice...My friend now has an orange dialled Sumo)

This was very long ago..I knew nothing of watches or else i would have been more careful with it, As we all know hindsight is truly 20/20. This was a gift from my mother to me..The sad story is that the company she worked for back then could buy seiko,ome...

My 1980s workhorse, a 6309-7040. Restored & pressure tested: ...  

My 6309-7040. Added a 12 hr bezel as it's my travel and dive watch...good, so far, to 34m A another 6309-7040 that I put together for a friend. Different dial and hands, good to 74m... In work.......  

...but they are all handsome pieces. I'm surprised you don't have a "bull head" chrono in the collection yet. I think it would make a natural pairing with the current watches. Thanks for sharing the pictures! Cheers, Daos

Hi Bellmatic for me - well the first Seiko I bought. Very definitly iconic in my opinion. Early 70ies Bellmatic great, but then there's the draw of a blue dial as well Blue dialed 5 Great watches Cheers JML...  

I like your blue-dialed military style a lot. I was considering the same piece recently in a desert color scheme. The Bellmatic is most certainly a horological icon. Great pieces both! Thanks for sharing the photos! Cheers, Daos

here are my offerings, a 66A calibre handwind from 1964 (what else). 1 button handwind chrono for the 1964 Tokyo olympics. also the first chrono Seiko made. i'm looking for a new bezel if anyone has one. Finally, the Seiko Discus which was the first forum...

Great idea on the Seiko roll call This GS is one of my all time favorite timepiece…brilliantly executed by Seiko. The most fun watch in my collection, its gets more attention then I like but comes with the territory when wearing a Discus. Seiko Fan Drew...

Since you didn't mention Grand Seiko I left all of them out of the picture. And all of the pocket watches. And clocks. And about a dozen others that didn't fit. Yes, I've been a bit obsessed, but I know it now and am taking one day at a time... Cazalea...

Dates from either 1963 or 1973 I believe (never can be sure with Seiko's serial number system). A very simple, time only watch. Movement is the 17 jewel cal 66A, handwound....  

I don't consider that to be humble. I mean that even very simple vintage Seiko models, such as yours, were often beautifully designed. I find that dial, and those hands and markers to be exceptionally elegant, given the simplicity and relatively low, orig... 

Hi Grumio, You and Graham are sharing very similar Cal. 66A Seiko's. And I had the pleasure of seeing this one 'live' with Grumio. It has a real presence, nicely proportioned case, the narrow bezel and 'bright' brushed dial makes it wear bigger than its s... 

I had not yet browsed through all the previous submissions before posting mine... This particular model does appear to be reasonably common. For now, it serves as my simple, time only 'dress' watch. One day to be replaced by that JLC master ultrathin perh...

we share a similar taste in Seikos. To me this is a great example of a 'simple' watch. The bare essentials, done well.

Three-hand perfection! I love the satin sunburst finish on the dial and faceted indices. What more do you really need in a watch? Great vintage Seiko! Cheers, Daos

My first good watch 30 plus years ago was a Seiko - sadly long gone. Ginger 1968 Lord Marvel handwind 1969 Grand Seiko handwind - my first high beat 1970 King Seiko Chronometer handwind 1971 ladies Grand Seiko handwind - only known pre quartz ladies 36k b...  

That's a great collection, Ginger. Sad to see the Lord Marvel move on, but if you're not wearing stuff it should move out, right? I would love a Seiko high beat for my collection. There was a limited edition green-dialed Grand Seiko high beat released not... 

The Lord Marvel is still with me - my first watch was some little Seiko ladies watch that is long gone. I have saved my pennies (ever declining against the yen) for a contemporary GS hi beat (perhaps even the 50th anniversary) and hope to learn more at th...

For me it was a Seiko piece, that started me on this very passion of ours. And the photo that I have enclosed (though not mine) is the one that started it all off. Oh how I wish, that I still had it!...  

is that they are, for the most part, affordable classics with good movements. I've heard a couple watchmakers lament how many of the newer Seiko movements are part plastic and riveted, rather than screwed together. This message has been edited by mrsnak o...

Daos, For me Seiko has always represented a great value. Manufacture movement, complete in-house capabilities, reasonable finish for the price point, and most importantly lots of affordable choices. I always thought Seiko as a company that was highly unde... 

...so kudos to him! Seiko is not the first brand that comes to mind when talking luxury timepieces (here in America, at least), but there's a lot to admire about the company and their products. You touch upon many of those points in your post. I like that... 

For starting the thread. I had a feeling it would be a popular one. It would have been even longer if SJX and Cazalea had posted their watches individually. Hmmm, wonder if Seiko would support a Seiko forum on PuristSPro, now that Grand Seiko distribution... 

...and not as part of the moderator team, I'd absolutely welcome a Seiko forum! I have no insight as to whether or not that will come to pass, however. There are several knowledgeable forum members when it comes to this particular brand though, so I feel ... 

One is the fairly well known SUS Military with the 4S15 movement. An overall charming beater with sturdy movement and a finish forgiving of daily wear. The other is an S-Wave of inferior quality of finish on case, dial and movement, but a charmer nonthele...
