and make all common sense steps to avoid contamination
but then again if we have another Chernobyl the risk is far greater than
wearing vintage Panerai or Rolex

I don't think that any of us would (if money is not an issue) pass by vintage
Panerai or
T dial Rolex just because of material used for illumination

From my point of view the danger associated with the handling of watches with radium dials is heavily underestimated by laymen. Many watch makers refuse servicing or repairing these watches in our days because it requires a vacuum decontamination chamber ...
