I have an idea...
You might possibly have heard of a company called Montblanc... ;-)
Have you thought of the 4810 Orbis Terrarum pocket watch? Not a manufacture movement, but it is a very attractive piece.
Get into higher price points and AP, VC, PP etc all have classical options.
However I have a feeling that the real way forward is vintage. Unfortunately I have no idea how to judge candidates. (I just found an old Waltham of my grandfather's and have to find someone to restore it.)

That I did not think about that one straight away. And your suggestion is highly fitting for me but not sure my mother will be quite able to stretch to it. But thanks anyway - goes onto my list of a possible first Montblanc, even if it will maybe not come...

IMHO, pocket watches would know a revival one day (may be not so far). Even if one of the best way to acquire a wonderful vintage pocket watch is auctions (not so expensive), you should think about this Epos ;-)

I did not post the limits initially and it\'s nice to dream... My mother would probably have a stroke, though Great, fabulous piece at any rate!
You might want to check out WEMPE
They have some pocket watches in their Zeitmeister lineup. Based on Unitas movements if I remember correctly and quite affordable. I think they even co e with a German Chronometer certification. Beat, Martin
