Horological Meandering

Interesting and perceptive post

Thanks for a very illuminating post---agree with much of your sentiments
However, the reasons i've kept most ,if not all of my watches, is due to the length of the search for a particular piece and/or the memories attached to certain purchases.
Sentiment plays a very big role in why pieces remain with me,but i think personal tastes and philosophies towards art and watch mechanics also play it's part.
I tend to be attracted to more "classical"(sic) understated styles and feel they are less likely to be fashion of the moment pieces and thus more likely to retain it's interest.
However, audacious avant-garde mechanical wonders like the Freak do attract me and if i should one day make a commitment to acquire it,it would most  likely be a stayer.
More mundane reasons why my watches remain keepers is that the cost of maintenance of these pieces are reasonably within my budget although they have increased over the years.

My two bits
