I can tell you that the Sympathie S34 is probably 30 years old, and the Caprice is pushing 25, and neither shows any signs of patination.

I recently acquired a Bovet 19thirty and it has a guilloche lacquered dial and it is gorgeous! Another material i think is sort of underrated but not as underrrated as lacquer is porecelain or ceramic dials, they are so nice!! ...

Porcelain can be gorgeous, and possibly as hard as fired enamel to pull off technically.

The quality applied to the Roger dubuis and luc dials are so sharp and glossy. I would have thought enamel unless told otherwise! I have a Girard Perregaux 4930, but I don't find the black lacquer of the dial to be finished as smoothly as the examples you...
I wonder if it isn't harder to achieve the lustre and the sense of depth in black lacquer.
On the other hand, I have seen some Japanese lacquer pens that get the job done, so who knows.
