Horological Meandering

I was curious as to what the star on the dial meant. The star indicates it was certified as a high grade precision timepiece that was "timed by the stars" at the Elgin Observatory. The stars is s nod to Elgin's marketing campaign and their specialized obs...  

My parents are both from Elgin. We visited there back in April. We visited the observatory as my father lived in the house next door for a while as a child. ...  

Thanks for this. It is great that you are carrying a pocket watch daily with you, should be fun. Immediately Grand Seiko’s high precision quartz came to my mind, they are accurate to +-5 seconds a year but much more importantly they have a 5 point star on...  

I visited Elgin a few times ~50 Years ago as I worked for a publishing company there, called David C Cook. I have an Elgin PW too. No star though 🙁 ...  

The ‘Lord Elgin’ was a premium line of the company Seiko comes out with a premium line branded ‘King Seiko’ Very cool fact about the in-house observatory OP. I wonder what specialized instruments made the timing more efficient? I don’t suppose they timed ... 

Lord Elgin, it has been shown on the forum many times. It keeps as good of time as the pocket watch, and it is accurate to the minute every single day.
