I was curious as to what the star on the dial meant.
The star indicates it was certified as a high grade
precision timepiece that was "timed by the stars"
at the Elgin Observatory. The stars is s nod to
Elgin's marketing campaign and their specialized
observatory in Elgin, IL. where master watchmakers
utilized actual astronomical observations of the stars
to regulate the exact time of their premium movements.
This particular watch keeps time to the minute,
day in and day out, doesn't miss a beat.
I carry it daily even though I still wear a wrist
watch every day.
I got the observatory info from a google search.

My parents are both from Elgin. We visited there back in April. We visited the observatory as my father lived in the house next door for a while as a child. ...

Thanks for this. It is great that you are carrying a pocket watch daily with you, should be fun. Immediately Grand Seiko’s high precision quartz came to my mind, they are accurate to +-5 seconds a year but much more importantly they have a 5 point star on...
