Very cool fact about the in-house observatory OP. I wonder what specialized instruments made the timing more efficient? I don’t suppose they timed a watch directly to the stars but who knows?
It would be more efficient but less cool to regulate a clock against the stars, then the watches to the clock.

The tank watch I have that was my dad's is a
Lord Elgin, it has been shown on the forum many times. It keeps as good of time as the pocket watch, and it is accurate to the minute every single day.
