Thanks for all the great comments
I enjoyed reading through them.
It seems many of the points hit home for many people. Perhaps I should have titled point 2, point 1a. I am not calling for the death of retail. It is great to have great dealers. However, if we agree that Watches in general are too expensive, it's hard not to take a look at the single biggest cost: retail margin, especially when it is an industry that has severely been disrupted seemingly everywhere except watches.
Point 3 is, of course, a point that takes subtle consideration. To me, someone whose life passion is to create a certain product is at least bordering on creating art (e.g. Felix Baumgartner, Max, few others). This necessitates a mastery level knowledge of watches, watch history, the watch business, and watch collectors - enough that a fully considered point of view can be formed. Alternatively, someone who thinks something "would be cool", "is novel", "seems like a neat idea", "has a market", etc, ultimately creates products of no real substance.
Best,
Steve
