Thanks for your thoughts.  I think you make a lot of really good points.


I think you hit the nail on the head by explaining that there's a difference between someone who admires your watch because it's a symbol of wealth versus someone who admires it out of horological appreciation, with the former being a nuisance and the latter being more likely to be a welcomed gesture.

My guess, and I mean no offence, is that Rolexes/Omegas (and perhaps Panerais) are far more likely to garner the former while the FP Journes/Vacherons/etc. are more likely to garner the latter.  Everyone knows what a Rolex is and they serve (for better or worse) as a status symbol, whereas only a WIS would recognize the others (again, for better or worse).
