During the pandemic, I wanted to create a limited edition of five watches for myself and my friends.
The idea was that everything could be 3D printed and custom-made, and that I would create something that was a cross between Urwerk and MB&F, but at an affordable price.
As you know, reality was a bit more complicated, but that was the spark that pushed me into a new world, one in which I had always been on the other side of the barricade.
Instead of buying a new watch (Trilobe Nuit Fantastique), I decided to invest that sum to achieve my goal. (Actually, I spent more.)
Over the last two years, I have been learning CAD and SolidWorks, as well as looking for suppliers and a watchmaker to bring my idea to life.
The watch's main feature is its unusual time display, and I chose an existing movement with a dedicated module.
I didn't opt for crowdfunding because I wanted it to be ready, and hopefully working, before I showed it to anyone.
This is just the short version of the story. Maybe one day I'll tell you how frustrating and rewarding it is to turn an idea into reality.
What I do next is still to be decided, although I have received advice and suggestions from friends and insiders.
P.S. A close friend of mine (one of the five) told me that it costs a million to make a watch and that I could never succeed.
Another friend indirectly replied that it's easy to make things with unlimited money; the best things are made on a low budget.
