I agree with Jim’s post
There is a certain purity to his watches that appeals to me. They are a distillation of a perfect (for me) watch that is built to last hundreds of years.
But I didn’t always feel that way. And really only recently did it click for me.
As an aside, the thickness is also largely related to the thickness of the plates that he uses. They are very thick. It gives the movement increased depth and dimensionality, and also improves their durability.
Smith has gone on record to say that he doesn’t like thin watches. They look and feel flimsy to him, and personally, I agree with him.
